DIN 17100 Standard: Technical Specifications for Structural Steels

The DIN 17100 standard has been officially updated and replaced by the EN 10222-1 and EN 10025-1 standards.

Scope of structural steels

This standard specifies technical requirements for a wide range of metal products, including sections, I-beams with parallel flange faces, structural steels, wire rod, hot-rolled flat products (sheets, strips, wide flats), as well as electric welded and seamless square and rectangular tubes. The specification covers forgings and intermediate billets supplied in a normalized condition to ensure the required microstructure and mechanical properties.

Products manufactured according to these requirements are intended for use in load-bearing metal structures assembled using welding, bolting, or riveting. Steels in this group are not intended for additional heat treatment, with the exception of normalizing or stress-relieving operations to improve dimensional stability during machining.

General-purpose non-alloyed structural steels are valued for their predictable yield strength and tensile strength characteristics at normal temperatures. They are key materials in civil and industrial construction, bridge building, hydraulic engineering, as well as in the machinery sector and the production of critical automotive components.
