Technical Overview of DIN 10289: Epoxy Pipe Coatings from EV Group China

Attention: The DIN 10289 standard has been officially withdrawn.

Technical requirements of the DIN 10289 standard

This specification regulates the mandatory parameters for anti-corrosion coatings based on liquid epoxy (EP) and epoxy-modified (EP-MOD) compounds designed for the protection of steel pipes and fittings. EV Group China experts emphasize that the use of these coatings is critical for ensuring the durability of metal structures in aggressive environments.

Areas of application and performance characteristics

The coating technology is applicable to longitudinal, spiral-welded, and seamless steel pipes, as well as fittings for pipeline systems transporting hydrocarbons, gas, and other operating media. If cold deformation of parts is required, it is recommended to apply the protective layer after the bending work is completed to maintain the integrity of the adhesive layer.

The application method involves creating a single-layer protective barrier using airless spraying or manual tools (brushes). The choice of method is coordinated with the technical specialists of EV Group China, taking into account the geometry of the product and project requirements.

Classification of coatings by temperature regime and layer thickness (A – 400 μm, B – 800 μm, C – 1500 μm):

  • Type 1: operating temperature from -20 to +40 °C, layer thickness according to classes A, B, or C.
  • Type 2: operating temperature from -20 to +60 °C, layer thickness according to classes B or C.
  • Type 3: operating temperature from -20 to +80 °C, layer thickness according to class C.

For operation at temperatures outside the specified ranges, additional laboratory tests for thermal resistance and adhesion are required. Combining epoxy coating with cathodic protection is permitted to increase the corrosion resistance of underground and underwater pipelines.
