Wide-base rails according to DIN 5901 standard: technical overview

Attention: the DIN 5901 regulation is officially considered obsolete and has been replaced by the current standard DIN EN 13674-1:2017-07.

Technical requirements and scope of DIN 5901

The DIN 5901 standard regulates the production and geometric parameters of bottom guide rails with a wide base. The document applies to rolled metal products with a linear density of less than 54 kg/m. EV Group China supplies rail products that comply with historical DIN 5901 specifications, provided that the steel grade requirements specified in section 6 of the regulatory document are met.

Technical note: for railway rails complying with CEN/TC 256/SC 1/WG 4 standards with a linear density exceeding 46 kg/m, a specialized standard has been developed, including requirements for the S49 profile. Until the full harmonization of European standards, the production of S49 rails can be carried out according to DIN 5901 specifications.
