Flat flanges DIN 2503: technical overview and recommendations from EV Group China experts

Technical features and scope of DIN 2503

The DIN 2503 standard regulates the geometric parameters and technical requirements for flat welding flanges designed for operation in pipeline systems at nominal pressures of PN 25 and PN 40. The product range covers nominal diameters from DN 10 to DN 500.

The technical documentation of the standard establishes strict tolerances for overall dimensions, requirements for the quality of sealing surface finishing, and determines the calculated weight of the products. Manufacturing processes, quality verification, and product labeling methods are carried out in accordance with the requirements of DIN 2519. Variants of contact face designs and types of seals used are regulated by the DIN 2526 standard.

The main function of these flanges in engineering networks is to provide a detachable pipe connection, as well as to integrate pipeline valves (valves, gate valves) into pipelines for various purposes.

Manufacturing materials

  • Stainless steel (corrosion-resistant grades for aggressive environments).
  • Carbon steel (general industrial design).
  • Alloy steel (for operation under increased loads and temperatures).

Important note: The DIN 2503 standard is officially recognized as obsolete. Current production of flanges of this type is carried out in strict accordance with the requirements of the international standard DIN EN 1092-1 (type 01). EV Group China experts recommend taking this into account when designing new assemblies and forming specifications for the procurement of metal products.
