Technical specifications and purpose of the ASTM F844M / ASME SF 844M standard
The ASTM F844 / ASME SF 844 standard regulates the production of general-purpose flat steel washers supplied in an unhardened condition. These hardware products are intended for use in fastening assemblies, including bolts, screws, studs, and nuts, to increase the bearing surface area, distribute axial load evenly, and minimize wear on mating parts during installation and operation.

It is important to note that these washers are not intended for high-load connections that require the use of heat-treated fasteners; for such purposes, washers according to ASTM F436 and F436M standards should be used.
