High-Strength Bolts ASTM A325 / ASME SA 325: Technical Specifications and Standards

Technical Regulations and Scope of ASTM/ASME A/SA 325

The ASTM A325 (ASME SA 325) standard establishes technical requirements for high-strength structural bolts with hexagonal heads, manufactured from carbon or alloy steel through quenching and tempering. This specification covers fasteners with a minimum tensile strength of 120 ksi (for diameters up to 1.0 inch) and 105 ksi (for diameters from 1.0 to 1 1/2 inches inclusive).

Fasteners of this category, supplied by EV Group China, are intended for critical structural connections. The performance characteristics of the products comply with the protocols of the Research Council on Structural Connections (RCSC), as well as the standards of the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) and the Industrial Fasteners Institute (IFI).

The main supply parameters include nominal diameters ranging from 1/2 to 1 1/2 inches. Bolts are classified by material type, which determines the chemical composition of the steel.

Important note: For general-purpose bolts, including anchor systems, the ASTM A449 specification should be used. This standard also applies to products with a diameter greater than 1 1/2 inches that require similar mechanical properties.

The A325 specification uses inch-pound units. For projects requiring the metric system, the ASTM A325M specification has been developed, which is a standalone document.

Please note that the standard applies exclusively to heavy hexagonal structural bolts. For fasteners with non-standard configurations or thread lengths other than the standard, we recommend referring to the ASTM A449 specification. The terminology used in the documentation complies with the F1789 standard.

EV Group China reminds you: when conducting acceptance testing (Section 10), strictly observe safety protocols. The responsibility for compliance with industry labor safety standards during structural installation lies with the operating organization.
