Technical regulations and scope of the BS 1414 standard
The international standard BS 1414 defines strict technical requirements for the production of cast and forged steel gate valves. This specification applies to shut-off valves with a solid wedge (rigid or flexible design) and an outside screw and yoke (OS&Y). Soft seating is permitted depending on operating conditions.
EV Group China provides shut-off valves that comply with these standards in the following parameters:
- Nominal diameters (DN): from 25 mm to 600 mm (1–24 inches).
- Pressure classes: from Class 150 to Class 2500.
- Connection types: flanged or butt-welded.
- Special executions: for classes 150 and 300, the standard covers products with diameters from 650 mm to 1050 mm (26–42 inches).
The BS 1414 regulation also serves as a fundamental guide for the design of valves made from special alloys not included in the basic list of materials in Section 3. This is critically important when selecting gate valves for use in aggressive corrosive environments or at extremely low temperatures (in accordance with the requirements of Section 36).
