ASTM F2934 Technical Standard for Metallic Bellows Expansion Joints

ASTM F2934 Technical Regulation: Design and Operation of Bellows Expansion Joints

This regulatory document defines the mandatory requirements for the engineering design, manufacturing methodology, quality control procedures, and testing protocols for circular metallic bellows expansion joints. These elements are designed to compensate for axial, angular, and lateral deformations in piping systems caused by thermal expansion of the working medium or the movement of process equipment.

Industrial Application and Functional Purpose

Integration of bellows expansion joints into EV Group China project documentation is recommended in cases where the natural flexibility of the pipeline route is insufficient to compensate for thermal stresses. The use of these assemblies helps prevent premature wear of load-bearing structures and critical damage to terminal equipment arising from cyclic changes in pipeline geometry.

EV Group China notes that the designer is entitled to implement additional design solutions that increase system reliability beyond the basic requirements of ASTM F2934, provided that standardized performance characteristics are maintained.

Standardization and Metrology

The specification adopts the inch-pound unit system as the primary standard. Values provided in parentheses in SI units are for reference purposes to ensure compatibility with international engineering standards.

Important note: The operating organization bears full responsibility for compliance with industrial safety, occupational health, and environmental regulations when integrating these assemblies into piping systems. This standard was developed in accordance with WTO principles on Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT), which ensures its recognition in the global metal products market.
