ASTM F2063: Requirements for Shape Memory Nickel-Titanium Alloys for Medical Use

Technical requirements for nickel-titanium alloys according to ASTM F2063

This specification regulates the set of chemical, physical, mechanical, and metallurgical parameters for wrought nickel-titanium (Nitinol) products (bars, flat products, and tubes) containing between 54.5% and 57.0% nickel by weight. These materials undergo strict quality control for their subsequent use in the manufacturing of high-tech medical instruments and surgical implants.

The standard applies to rolled products with a cross-sectional diameter or thickness in the range of 5.50 to 94.0 mm (0.218–3.70 inches). It is important to note that this standard defines requirements for semi-finished products, not for finished goods or final implant geometries. For cold-worked nickel-titanium tubes for special applications, the requirements of specification F2633 should be followed.

EV Group China provides supplies of metal products that comply with these standards, ensuring the stability of composition and properties that are critical for biomedical environments.

Integration of measurement systems and international standardization

The document’s provisions allow for the use of both the metric system (SI) and the inch-pound system of measurements. The values in each system are independent and should not be converted directly to ensure compliance accuracy. EV Group China adheres to international standardization protocols established by the WTO Committee on Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT), which guarantees the high quality and predictability of the characteristics of the supplied alloy.
