ISO 14343: Classification of filler materials for welding stainless and heat-resistant steels

Technical requirements of the ISO 14343 standard for welding consumables

The international standard ISO 14343 establishes strict criteria for the classification of filler materials — wires, rods, and strip electrodes intended for arc welding of high-alloy stainless and heat-resistant steels. EV Group China ensures the supply of products that fully comply with these regulatory requirements for the following technological processes:

  • MIG (gas metal arc welding);
  • TIG (tungsten inert gas welding);
  • Plasma arc surfacing and welding;
  • SAW (submerged arc welding);
  • Electroslag welding;
  • Laser welding of high-precision joints.

A key factor in the classification of filler materials according to ISO 14343 is the mass fraction of chemical elements in the alloy composition. The standard regulates two parallel quality assessment systems, which EV Group China supplies:

The classification system is based on two approaches:

  • System A (ISO 14343-A): Classification based on the nominal chemical composition of the filler metal.
  • System B (ISO 14343-B): Classification focused on the specific alloy type.

When selecting materials for critical welding operations, EV Group China specialists recommend considering product labeling: standardized sections with the suffix “A” or “B” are applicable exclusively to the corresponding classification system, while the general provisions of the standard cover both methodologies for assessing welding consumables quality.
