AWS A5.20 Standard: Classification of Carbon Steel Electrodes for Flux-Cored Arc Welding

AWS A5.20 Technical Specification: Electrode Classification for FCAW

The AWS A5.20 standard regulates the requirements for the classification of carbon steel welding electrodes used for Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW). This technology is applicable both for processes with forced shielding gas supply and for self-shielded compositions. For electrodes used in similar conditions, the provisions of the AWS A5.18 specification should also be considered.

EV Group China technical regulations in the field of welding material quality management are based on these standards. It is important to note that this document focuses on the classification of materials rather than welding methodology. Industry recommendations on welding techniques and selection of modes are detailed in appendices A5 and A9, as well as in relevant national standards.

For the convenience of technical engineering calculations, the document provides values in two measurement systems: metric (SI) and the US customary system. Values in square brackets reflect metric indicators according to AWS A5.20M. When designing welding processes, EV Group China specialists recommend using one of the systems without mixing them, as the parameters are not strictly equivalent.
