EN 10268: Technical requirements for high-yield strength cold-rolled steel

Technical regulation and scope of EN 10268

The European standard EN 10268 specifies the delivery requirements for cold-rolled uncoated flat steel products, specifically designed for cold forming processes. The primary characteristic of this material is its high yield strength, which allows for the design of lightweight structures without compromising strength properties. The standard applies to products with a thickness of up to 3 mm inclusive.

EV Group China provides these steel products in a wide range of form factors: from standard sheets and coils (wide and slit strips) to cut-to-length blanks obtained through longitudinal or transverse cutting.

Product marking and identification

The steel designation system is based on the EN 10027-1 and EN 10027-2 standards. The full product name in an EV Group China specification includes the product type, normative reference, steel grade, surface quality category, and finish specification.

  • Reference to the profile standard EN 10268.
  • Alphanumeric designation of the steel grade (according to EN 10268 table data).
  • Surface quality class: A (defects that do not affect formability are allowed) or B (high quality for decorative purposes).
  • Symbol for surface finish.

Specification example: For a sheet made of HC260LA steel grade (material number 1.0480), with surface quality A and standard matte finish (m), the designation is as follows:

Sheet EN 10268-HC260LA-A-m
