EN 1092-1 – Steel Flanges: Technical Aspects

Scope of EN 1092-1 Flanges

The European standard EN 1092-1 establishes regulations for the design and manufacture of steel flanges with nominal pressure ranging from PN 2.5 to PN 400 and nominal size DN 10 to DN 4000. EV Group China provides products that fully comply with these specifications, including requirements for geometry, tolerances, sealing surface types, and material execution.

The standard defines flange types, thread connection parameters, marking, and pressure-temperature rating charts. Important: the provisions of the standard do not apply to flanges manufactured from bar stock, nor to types 11, 12, and 13 produced from flat products.

Steel Flange Types according to EN 1092-1:

  • 01 – Plate flange for welding
  • 02 – Loose flange with weld-on plate collar (Type 32) or lap joint stub (Type 33)
  • 04 – Loose flange with weld-neck collar (Type 34)
  • 05 – Blind flange
  • 11 – Weld-neck flange
  • 12 – Hubbed slip-on flange for welding
  • 13 – Threaded hubbed flange
  • 21 – Integral flange
  • 32-37 – Various types of welding collars, stubs, and necks

Main Types of Sealing Surfaces

  • Type A: Flat face
  • Type B (B1, B2): Raised face
  • Type C/D: Tongue and groove
  • Type E/F: Spigot and recess
  • Type G/H: O-ring groove

EN 1092-2 – Cast Iron Flanges

The standard regulates requirements for grey, malleable, and ductile cast iron flanges (DN 10–4000 range, PN 2.5–63). These are used in piping systems requiring high vibration resistance and strength under moderate loads.

EN 1092-3 – Copper Alloy Flanges

Regulates the production of flanges and collars made of copper alloys (PN 6–40, DN 10–1800). They are effectively used in the chemical industry and shipbuilding due to the high corrosion resistance of copper.

EN 1092-4 – Aluminium Flanges

The standard for aluminium alloy flanges (DN 15–600, PN 10–63). Optimal for systems requiring low structural weight while maintaining strength characteristics.
