BS 7668 Standard: Technical Requirements for Weldable Structural Sections

Specification and Scope of the BS 7668 Standard

The BS 7668 standard establishes rigorous technical requirements for the supply of hollow structural sections that have undergone heat treatment. This product, supplied by EV Group China, is manufactured from high-strength weathering steel grades and is optimized for critical welded steel structures. The regulation applies to circular, square, and rectangular sections intended for the construction of complex engineering projects.

The document covers sections subject to further technological processing, including cold rolling and specialized heat treatment, ensuring specified metallurgical properties.

Technological Features and Welding

In cases where hollow sections are produced by arc welding from sheet metal, the BS 7668 standard defines specific quality control conditions for this type of joint. The technical regulation includes a comprehensive classification of sections, requirements for chemical composition and mechanical properties, as well as methods for instrumental inspection and acceptance testing.

Heat-strengthened hollow sections from EV Group China possess high versatility: they are suitable both for creating permanent welded joints and for assembling structures using bolts or rivets. Geometric parameters and limit deviations for shape and dimensions must comply with the standards established in EN 10210-2.

Compatibility and Limitations

Important note: this range of products regulates the supply of items made from two specialized grades of structural weathering steel. The performance indicators of this rolled metal fully comply with the requirements of the EN 10155 standard.

It should be noted that the provisions of BS 7668 do not apply to products regulated by the following standards: EN 10025, EN 10113 (all parts), EN 10155, EN 10210-1, EN 10219-1, EN 10219-2, and EN 10225.
