This standard establishes unified surface condition requirements for hot-rolled steel plates, wide flats, and sections. The regulation defines permissible defect parameters, localization methods, and the maximum allowable depth and area of damage requiring remediation through grinding or welding.

In the event of discrepancies, priority is given to the requirements of the specific product standard.

Scope of EN 10163-2

This document regulates surface and edge quality requirements for hot-rolled plates and wide flats with a nominal thickness (t) ranging from 3 mm to 400 mm. This standard is an extension of the provisions of EN 10163-1 and is mandatory for the supply of plate products for critical metal structures.

Technical Note: For plates with a thickness exceeding 400 mm, surface acceptance conditions are determined individually upon placing an order with EV Group China.

EN 10163-3 Standard: Regulations for Surface Assessment of Hot-Rolled Sections

Specifics of EN 10163-3 Application

The standard supplements the general requirements of EN 10163-1 with specific rules for sections. The rules apply to all surfaces of the profile, excluding the edges. When assessing the quality of sections, the ends of the profiles, in accordance with EN 10055 regulations, are classified as part of the main surfaces.
