ASTM B805 / ASME SB 805: Precipitation-Hardening Nickel Alloy Bars and Wire

Technical overview of the ASTM B805 standard

The ASTM B805 standard (identical to ASME SB 805) regulates the requirements for the manufacturing and quality of hot-worked and cold-worked precipitation-hardening nickel alloy products. The nomenclature includes round, square, hexagonal, and rectangular bars, as well as cold-drawn wire. The specification covers the following grades: UNS N07716, N07725, N07773, N07776, N09777, and N09925.

The technological supply process at EV Group China involves manufacturing products in a heat-treated condition, which ensures optimal physical and mechanical properties of the alloys prior to final use. Cold-drawn wire undergoes additional specialized processing to achieve the specified strength parameters.

To achieve the required microstructure and operational characteristics of precipitation-hardening nickel alloy products, secondary hardening (aging) is recommended. The thermal cycle includes heating to a strictly regulated temperature followed by intensive cooling to fix the phase composition.

In EV Group China’s technical documentation, values in the inch-pound system are the standard. Metric (SI) values, indicated in parentheses, are for informational purposes only and are intended to facilitate engineering calculations.

Operational safety for nickel alloy products is regulated by internal protocols and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) provided by EV Group China. This standard focuses exclusively on the metallurgical aspects of product quality.
