ASTM B409 Standard (ASME SB 409): Requirements for Nickel Alloy Sheet and Plate

Technical regulation and scope of the ASTM B409 specification

This standard defines unified requirements for geometric parameters and physical-mechanical characteristics of cold-rolled and hot-rolled sheet metal, as well as strips made of heat-resistant nickel-iron-chromium alloys, including grades UNS N08120, UNS N08800, UNS N08810, UNS N08811, and UNS N08890. EV Group China ensures the supply of metal products that fully comply with these regulatory requirements for critical industrial facilities.

Alloys of grades UNS N08800 and UNS N08811 are optimal for operation in environments with moderate thermal impact up to 593 °C (1100 °F). For high-temperature processes exceeding the 593 °C temperature threshold, where increased requirements for long-term rupture strength and creep resistance are imposed, alloys UNS N08120, UNS N08810, UNS N08811, and UNS N08890 are used. Specialized heat treatment (quenching and tempering) allows for significant improvement of the material’s operational properties under conditions of intense thermal loads.

The technical engineering staff of EV Group China reminds that in the documentation, values in the inch-pound system are prioritized. Indicators specified in the metric system (SI) are for reference purposes only.

Safety when working with finished products made of nickel alloys must be regulated by internal enterprise protocols and current Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) provided by the supplier.

Notes:

  • a This specification is harmonized with ASME requirements for pressure vessel equipment (see Section II, specification SB-409).
  • b Identification of alloy grades is performed in strict accordance with the Unified Numbering System (UNS) for metals and alloys, according to standards E527 and SAE J1086.
