API 600 Standard: Technical Requirements for Bolted Bonnet Steel Gate Valves

Technical Regulations and Scope of Application for API 600 Gate Valves

This standard regulates the design, manufacturing, and operational characteristics of industrial steel gate valves equipped with bolted bonnet connections. Equipment supplied by EV Group China is intended for critical units in the oil refining industry and related sectors, where the technological process involves aggressive corrosive media, erosional wear, and high loads on the shut-off assembly. The product design features a full-bore section, reinforced body walls, and an increased stem diameter to ensure durability under harsh operating conditions.

Standard specifications from EV Group China for this type of valve include the following design features:

  • bolted bonnet;
  • Outside Screw and Yoke (OS&Y);
  • rising stem;
  • non-rising handwheel;
  • shut-off element: solid or flexible wedge;
  • sealing types: wedge or parallel;
  • sealing surface material: metal-to-metal;
  • connection types: flanged or butt-welded.

Technical parameters cover a wide range of nominal diameters (DN):

  • 25, 32, 40, 50, 65, 80, 100, 150, 200, 250, 300, 350, 400, 450, 500, 600, 650, 700, 750, 800, 850, 900, 950, 1000, 1050.

Corresponding values in Nominal Pipe Sizes (NPS):

  • 1, 1 1/4, 1 1/2, 2, 2 1/2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 24, 26, 28, 30, 32, 34, 36, 38, 40, 42.

Classification by pressure rating (Class):

  • 150, 300, 600, 900, 1500, 2500.

For products requiring the API monogram and manufactured at API-certified facilities, the regulatory requirements set forth in Annex A of the standard are strictly observed.
