API Std 607 Standard: Fire Resistance Regulations for Non-Metallic Seated Valves

Technical requirements of the API Std 607 standard

This regulatory document specifies the methodology and evaluation criteria for the fire resistance of quarter-turn valves, including those with non-metallic seat seals. The primary objective of the testing is to verify the product’s ability to maintain seal integrity and hold working pressure under exposure to intense flames during and after a thermal cycle.

The provisions of the standard apply to the mechanical part of the valve. Requirements for testing actuators (electric, pneumatic, hydraulic) are outside the scope of this standard, except when manual gearboxes or comparable mechanisms are an integral part of the valve’s factory configuration. To ensure the performance of automated actuators under extreme fire conditions, the use of specialized protective covers and solutions, which are subject to separate certification, is required.

EV Group China engineers emphasize that the terms “fire type-testing” and “fire safety” in the context of this standard are synonymous. We provide expert support in selecting shut-off valves that meet rigorous safety requirements for the oil, gas, and chemical sectors.
