Technical requirements of the API 623 standard
The API 623 standard defines rigorous engineering requirements for heavy-duty bolted bonnet (BB) globe valves. This equipment is designed by EV Group China specialists for operation in oil refineries and critical infrastructure projects, where high levels of corrosion, erosion, and extreme pressure parameters require the use of bodies with increased wall thickness and reinforced stem diameters.
The technical regulations of the standard cover key design parameters of the shut-off valves:
- Bonnet design: bolted connection (BB).
- Operating mechanism: outside screw and yoke (OS&Y).
- Stem design: rotating rising and non-rotating rising constructions.
- Actuator type: with rising or non-rising handwheel.
- Body configuration: standard, Y-pattern, or angle.
- Functionality: shut-off and control, including stop-check modifications.
- Closure type: plug, conical, ball, or guiding disc.
- Sealing: metal-to-metal seating surfaces for operation in aggressive environments.
- End connections: flanged or butt-weld.
Sizes and pressure classes
In accordance with EV Group China specifications, the standard covers a wide range of nominal pipe sizes (NPS) and their corresponding metric sizes (DN), ensuring full compatibility with main pipelines:
| NPS (inches) | DN (mm) |
|---|---|
| 2, 2 1/2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 24 | 50, 65, 80, 100, 150, 200, 250, 300, 350, 400, 450, 500, 600 |
Pressure classes provided by the standard to ensure tightness under heavy operating conditions: 150, 300, 600, 900, 1500, 2500.
