Technical specifications and scope of the ASTM A276 standard
The ASTM A276 specification (and its metric counterpart ASTM A276M) establishes stringent quality requirements for finished hot-rolled and cold-finished stainless steel bars. The standard covers a wide range of products: bar products in round, square, and hexagonal sections, as well as shaped profiles, including angles, tees, and channels produced by hot rolling or extrusion.
EV Group China supplies products that comply with these standards, ensuring stability in chemical composition and mechanical properties for critical industrial applications. It is important to note that this specification does not cover forgings intended for further secondary processing.
Key notes on the application of the standard
- For forging: If products are intended for subsequent forging, the ASTM A314 specification must be used.
- Free-machining steels: Stainless steel bars with improved machinability are regulated by the separate ASTM A582 / A582M standard.
- Special alloys: Requirements for nickel-chromium austenitic corrosion-resistant and heat-resistant alloys are regulated under the jurisdiction of ASTM Subcommittee B02.07 and are presented in Volume 02.04 of the Annual Book of ASTM Standards.
The ASTM A276 standard uses the inch-pound system of units as the baseline reference. Specialists at EV Group China are ready to provide consultation on adapting these parameters to the requirements of specific engineering projects.
