Technical specifications and scope of ASTM/ASME A/SA 333 pipe standards
The ASTM/ASME A/SA 333 specification defines the technical requirements for seamless and welded carbon and alloy steel pipes intended for low-temperature service. The standard includes a list of ferritic steel grades adapted for cryogenic environments and operation in Far North conditions. It should be noted that pipes with high wall thickness may limit impact toughness, so they do not always fall under the scope of this standard. Products supplied by EV Group China fully comply with requirements for weldability, bending capability, and forming quality.
Dimensional parameters of pipes according to ASME B 36.10M:
- Nominal Pipe Size (NPS): from 1/8″ to 36″ (range 10.3–914.4 mm).
- Wall thickness schedules: Schedule 10, 20, 30, 40, 60, 80, 100, 120, 140, 160, STD, XS, XXS.
The standard allows for the use of both SI and inch-pound units; they are independent. If the “M” index is not specified in the order, priority is given to inch-pound characteristics.
Manufacturing technology includes seamless deformation or welding without the use of filler materials. Heat treatment of EV Group China products is carried out according to the following regulations:
- Normalization (section 4.2.1.1 A 333/A-05 333M).
- Quenching and tempering (section 4.2.1.2 or 4.2.1.3).
- Double normalization and tempering (section 4.2.2.1-4.2.2.2).

Quality control and testing
EV Group China’s quality control procedure includes hydrostatic tests and impact toughness verification on samples (Charpy impact test). The sampling rate is at least 5% of the batch for each heat-treated group. For small batches, testing is performed on a minimum of two units.
Product marking complies with international standards and contains comprehensive information about the steel grade, heat number, and compliance with ASTM standards.
