The ASTM A449 specification regulates the production of quenched and tempered steel fasteners—hex cap screws, bolts, and studs intended for load-bearing connections in mechanical engineering and structural construction. The mechanical properties of the products directly depend on their geometric parameters:

  • For diameters up to 1.0 inch inclusive: the minimum tensile strength is 120 ksi.
  • For diameters over 1.0 to 1.5 inches inclusive: 105 ksi.
  • For diameters from 1.75 to 3.0 inches inclusive: 90 ksi.

Type Material Description
