ASTM A540 / A540M (ASME SA 540 / SA 540M) Technical Specification
The ASTM A540 / A540M specification regulates requirements for high-strength bolting elements and alloy steel blanks designed for use in critical applications, including nuclear power facilities and specialized industrial equipment. The standard provides for the use of both the imperial (inch-pound) and metric (SI) systems of measurement. Unless the “M” designation is specified in the order, delivery will be carried out in accordance with inch standards. It is important to note that the unit systems are independent—interpolation or combining values from different systems is not permitted to maintain standard compliance.
