ASTM A564: Specification for Hot-Rolled and Cold-Finished Precipitation-Hardening Stainless Steel Bars and Shapes

Technical Features and Application Scope of the ASTM A564 Standard

The international standard ASTM A564 establishes strict requirements for the production of shaped rolled products and section billets made of precipitation-hardening corrosion-resistant steels. The product range covered by the specification includes bars (round, square, and hexagonal cross-sections) as well as shaped elements (angles, tees, and channels). The manufacturing process includes hot deformation methods (rolling, forging) and cold working (drawing, calibration). EV Group China supplies rolled products in accordance with this standard, ensuring full compliance of chemical composition and mechanical properties with the stated characteristics.

Materials regulated by ASTM A564 are designed for critical components and mechanisms operating in aggressive environments with high strength requirements. The steels maintain operational reliability at room temperature and in heated conditions: up to 315°C (600°F) for base grades, up to 370°C (700°F) for Type 632, and up to 450°C (840°F) for alloy UNS S46910.

Advantages of processing EV Group China materials:

  • High workability in the solution-annealed state, which minimizes the risk of deformation or cracking during subsequent heat treatment (aging).
  • Grade XM-25 retains excellent machinability even after heat treatment.
  • Alloy UNS S46910 is characterized by versatility: mechanical processing is permissible both after annealing and after intensive cold deformation or precipitation hardening.

It is important to consider that the specifications for grades 631 and 632 provide for an increased proportion of the ferritic phase. This structural state requires a professional approach during forging and the production of large-diameter bars to maintain the plastic characteristics of the metal.

In EV Group China documentation, all values are provided in accordance with the ASTM (inch) system or the metric system [in square brackets]. When placing an order, if the “M” marking is not specified, American size standards are applied by default.
