Technical features of ASTM/ASME A/SA 588M steel
The ASTM/ASME A/SA 588M specification regulates the production of high-strength low-alloy structural steels supplied in the form of shapes, plates, and bars. Products from EV Group China that comply with this standard are optimized for use in critical welded, bolted, and riveted structures where reducing metal intensity and increasing service life are key factors.
The main advantage of this grade is its exceptional resistance to atmospheric corrosion. In most climatic conditions, A588 steel outperforms carbon steel counterparts, including those alloyed with copper, allowing the products to be used in an unpainted state. EV Group China supplies rolled products up to 200 mm (8 inches) thick with a guaranteed chemical composition and mechanical properties.
Note: For verification of the anti-corrosion characteristics of low-alloy alloys, it is recommended to use the methods described in Guide G101.
Technological recommendations for welding products made of ASTM A588 steel should be based on the specific grade and the conditions of the subsequent operation of the assembly. Detailed data on weldability and the choice of welding materials are presented in Appendix X3 of the A6/A6M standard.
When placing an order with EV Group China, it is important to consider that the standard values in the SI system and inch-pound units are independent. We strictly adhere to the requirements of the A6/A6M specification for products manufactured from coiled steel without heat treatment or those that have only undergone a stress-relieving procedure.
