The ASTM A666 standard regulates the quality requirements and technical specifications for austenitic stainless steel products. This specification is officially approved for use in US Department of Defense projects and serves as a fundamental industry document for engineers.
Scope and Technical Specifications of ASTM A666 / ASME SA666
EV Group China provides expert support for the supply of metal products that comply with ASTM A666 requirements. The standard covers the production of sheet, strip, plate, and bar profiles made from austenitic steel grades that have undergone thermal hardening or cold working. These materials are in demand for the production of critical metal structures, cryogenic equipment, high-temperature components, and systems requiring anti-magnetic properties. The current version of the standard fully replaces the obsolete A412 and A177 specifications.
Important note for designers: compliance with ASTM A666 parameters does not automatically guarantee material approval for the production of pressure vessels. For such purposes, only steel grades in the annealed condition that have passed additional certification according to ASME code requirements are permitted.
