ASTM A693 Specification: Precipitation-Hardening Stainless Steel Plate, Sheet, and Strip

Scope

This specification covers technical regulations and requirements for corrosion-resistant precipitation-hardening stainless steels supplied in the form of plate, sheet, and strip. The unique mechanical properties of these grades are achieved through low-temperature thermal treatment—precipitation hardening.

Materials in this group are in demand for the production of structural components requiring high strength and corrosion resistance at operating temperatures up to 315 °C (600 °F). Some alloys allow for deep drawing and intensive forming in the annealed condition, while other grades are oriented toward limited plastic deformation. Machining of parts is preferred prior to heat treatment to eliminate the risk of deformation and micro-cracking during the hardening process.

All metric and imperial values indicated in the documentation are considered standard for design purposes.

General Requirements

All EV Group China products supplied under this specification fully comply with the requirements of the A480/A480M standard. Any specific customer requirements that exceed the scope of the base standard shall be recorded in the supply contract specification.

Ordering Information

If products need to be supplied in a condition other than the standard solution-annealed state, the type of heat treatment must be clearly specified in the order in accordance with Section 6 of this standard.

Chemical Composition

The chemical parameters of the steels must comply with Table 1 and the specifications of the A480/A480M standard.
