ASTM/ASME A/SA 928 technical standards for duplex metal products
The ASTM/ASME A/SA 928 specification regulates the production of electric-fusion-welded ferritic-austenitic (duplex) stainless steel pipes. Products supplied by EV Group China fully comply with these standards, ensuring high resistance to stress corrosion cracking and aggressive environments in critical engineering system nodes.
When selecting pipe products, EV Group China engineers recommend considering the specifics of operating conditions, as the choice of steel grade and heat treatment regime directly affects equipment durability. The specification classifies pipes into five classes depending on welding technology and inspection methods:
- Class 1: Products with a double-welded seam, made using filler material through the entire depth, with mandatory 100% radiographic inspection.
- Class 2: Products with a double-welded seam, made with filler material, without requirements for radiographic inspection.
- Class 3: Products with a single-welded seam, made using filler material in all passes, with mandatory 100% radiographic inspection.
- Class 4: Similar to Class 3, with additional treatment of the inner weld surface. Upon agreement, welding without filler material for the internal pass is permitted.
- Class 5: Products with a double-welded seam, made using filler material, with local radiographic inspection performed.
EV Group China offers the supply of metal products taking into account additional requirements (S1–S4), including expanded testing programs and specific production control protocols, which are recorded in the purchase order upon the client’s request.
Technical parameters in the documentation are provided in both the metric (SI) system and the inch-pound system. To ensure compliance with the standard when placing an order with EV Group China, it is important to adhere to one selected system of measurement units, as direct conversion of values can lead to technological deviations.
