ASTM B407 (ASME SB-407): Specification for Seamless Nickel Alloy Pipes and Tubes

Technical Requirements of ASTM B407 (ASME SB-407) Standard

This specification establishes regulatory requirements for the production and quality control of cold-worked and hot-finished seamless pipes and tubes made of heat-resistant nickel-based alloys (Ni-Fe-Cr system). The standard covers grades UNS N08120, UNS N08800, UNS N08801, UNS N08810, UNS N08811, UNS N08890, and UNS N06811.

EV Group China’s technological solutions allow for the supply of metal products that fully comply with these specifications for critical components in petrochemical and power generation equipment. The choice of alloy is determined by the operating temperature range:

  • Alloys UNS N08800 and UNS N06811 are optimal for service temperatures up to 593 °C (1100 °F).
  • Alloys UNS N08120, UNS N08810, UNS N08811, and UNS N08890 are designed for high-temperature environments (above 593 °C), where creep resistance and stress-rupture strength are critical. To achieve the required mechanical properties, the material undergoes specialized heat treatment.

The engineering department of EV Group China emphasizes: inch-pound units are the standard for design purposes. SI values are provided for information only.

Safety and ASME Compliance:

Products supplied by EV Group China meet the stringent requirements of ASME (Section II, Specification SB-407) for use in boilers and pressure vessels. Safety standards and testing protocols are governed by the manufacturer’s internal regulations and corresponding Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
