ASTM B408 (ASME SB 408) Standard: Requirements for Nickel Alloy Bars and Forgings

ASTM B408 Technical Regulation for Nickel Alloys

The ASTM B408 standard establishes strict requirements for the production, chemical composition, and mechanical properties of rods, bars, and forgings made from precision nickel-iron-chromium alloys, including grades UNS N08120, UNS N08800, UNS N08810, UNS N08811, and UNS N08890. Metal product supplies of this type from EV Group China comply with global industrial quality and safety standards.

Engineering solutions based on UNS N08800 and UNS N08811 are optimized for operation in thermal conditions up to 593 °C (1100 °F). For high-temperature processes where operating temperatures exceed this threshold, EV Group China specialists recommend using alloys UNS N08120, UNS N08810, UNS N08811, and UNS N08890. These materials undergo special heat treatment (quenching and tempering) to ensure maximum creep resistance and long-term strength under aggressive high-temperature loads.

Technical specifications provided in the inch-pound system are the standard’s baseline. Parameters in SI units are for reference purposes to facilitate project documentation adaptation.

The testing methodology described in Section 7 of the standard regulates quality control parameters. Industrial safety requirements for handling finished components are determined by the current Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) accompanying EV Group China products.

Technical Notes:

  • The standard is adapted for the needs of boiler equipment and pressure vessels in accordance with ASME standards (Section II, specification SB-408).
  • The alloy designation system fully complies with UNS and SAE J1086 protocols, ensuring international identification of metal products.
