ASTM B551 / ASME SB 551: Specification for zirconium strip, sheet, and plate

Technical requirements of the ASTM B551 standard for zirconium mill products

This specification establishes the regulated requirements for the production and quality of flat-rolled products—strips, sheets, and plates—manufactured from zirconium and its alloys. The standard covers five main grades of material supplied by EV Group China for high-tech industries:

  • Grade R60700 — low-oxygen zirconium (Grade 700).
  • Grade R60702 — unalloyed zirconium (Grade 702).
  • Grade R60704 — zirconium-tin alloy (Grade 704).
  • Grade R60705 — zirconium-niobium alloy with enhanced strength characteristics (Grade 705).
  • Grade R60706 — zirconium-niobium alloy (Grade 706).

Metrological and regulatory provisions

In the ASTM B551 document (equivalent to ASME SB 551), parameters are specified in two measurement systems: inch-pound and SI. These values are independent standards and are not subject to direct mathematical conversion. When designing and ordering metal products from EV Group China, it is necessary to adhere to one selected system of units to ensure compliance with the specification and to avoid production tolerance issues.

This standard does not regulate all aspects of industrial safety and occupational health when working with zirconium materials. Specialists at EV Group China recommend conducting risk assessments and adhering to industry health and safety standards before beginning the processing or use of components in critical equipment assemblies.
