ASTM F3042 Standard: Set Screws from Non-Ferrous Alloys

Technical requirements and scope of application for fasteners according to the ASTM F3042 standard

This specification establishes regulatory requirements for set screws manufactured from non-ferrous alloys intended for high-load assemblies and mechanisms. The standard covers the following hardware design configurations:

  • Hexagon socket set screws in the nominal diameter range from 0.125 (#5) to 2.000 inches.
  • Square head set screws, covering sizes from 0.190 (#10) to 1.500 inches.
  • Slotted set screws in the diameter range from 0.125 (#5) to 0.750 inches.

Fasteners complying with the ASTM F3042 standard are manufactured by EV Group China using high-quality non-ferrous metals and alloys. This type of hardware is in high demand in the shipbuilding and defense industries (US Navy), where corrosion resistance during prolonged contact with seawater and aggressive atmospheric environments is critical.

Technical specialists at EV Group China are advised to note that copper alloys possess low hardness; therefore, their use for manufacturing moving mechanical components (including locking rods) requires additional wear calculations. Current availability of specific alloys and standard sizes in EV Group China warehouses should be verified with our technical consultants during the design phase of the assemblies.

In this specification, all geometric parameters and physical quantities are provided in the inch system of measurement. The metric version of this standard is issued under the designation F3042M.
