ASTM F880 Standard: Technical Requirements for Stainless Steel Set Screws

Technical specifications and scope according to ASTM F880

The ASTM F880 specification defines strict industry requirements for austenitic stainless steel fasteners. The standard regulates the geometry and physical-mechanical properties of three main types of set screws:

  • Socket Set Screws (SSS): diameter range from 0.060 to 1.000 inches.
  • Square Head Set Screws (SHSS): diameter range from 0.190 to 1.500 inches.
  • Slotted Headless Set Screws (HSS): diameter range from 0.060 to 0.750 inches (in AF and CW versions).

EV Group China engineers note that these products are widely used in high-load industrial equipment assemblies that require high corrosion resistance and fixation precision. The ASTM F880 standard relies exclusively on the inch-pound measurement system, which is critical when selecting fasteners for equipment built to American standards.
