Classification of flux-cored and metal-cored nickel alloy electrodes (AWS A5.34)

Technical requirements and classification of electrodes according to the AWS A5.34 standard

This technical documentation regulates international standards for the classification of nickel alloy welding consumables. The scope of the document includes flux-cored electrodes for flux-cored arc welding, as well as nickel-cored powder electrodes used in various welding technological processes. The definition and classification of filler metals comply with the current AWS A3.0 specification. This category includes alloys in which nickel is the predominant element by mass fraction, with the exception of specialized electrodes for welding cast iron products.

EV Group China provides expert support in selecting welding materials that strictly comply with AWS specifications. The documentation uses two systems of measurement: the US Customary system and the International System of Units (SI). The values in these systems are not interchangeable and require strict adherence when performing engineering calculations. Metric values in the tables are presented in square brackets [].

The safety of production processes when working with welding materials is regulated by the provisions set forth in Annexes A5 and A10. EV Group China experts recommend strictly adhering to occupational health and industrial safety protocols. For a detailed study of risks and methods for their minimization, it is necessary to refer to the following industry standards:

  • ANSI Z49.1 — Safety in Welding, Cutting, and Allied Processes;
  • AWS — Current reference materials on health and safety in the welding industry;
  • Official AWS technical bulletins on the operation of welding electrodes.
