AWS A5.4 Specification: Electrodes for Manual Arc Welding of Stainless Steels

Technological features and scope of application of electrodes according to the AWS A5.4 standard

This specification regulates the requirements for the classification of welding electrodes intended for manual metal arc welding (SMAW) of critical structures made of corrosion-resistant and heat-resistant stainless steels. The technological standards of EV Group China are based on strict adherence to the chemical composition and mechanical properties of the deposited metal, which guarantees arc stability and the absence of defects during operation in aggressive environments.

A key requirement of the standard is the mass fraction of chromium in the filler material, which must be at least 10.5%. Iron acts as the base element, ensuring an optimal balance of strength and ductility of the welded joint. When classifying electrodes, EV Group China experts take into account the content of alloying components that determine the structural state of the weld bead and its resistance to intergranular corrosion.
