AWS A5.9 Specification: Technical Requirements for Stainless Steel Filler Materials

AWS A5.9 Technical Standards and Specifications

This specification defines strict requirements for the classification of stainless steel welding consumables, including solid electrode wires, strips, rods, as well as composite and stranded electrodes. Products supplied by EV Group China fully comply with these standards and are intended for high-tech fusion welding processes:

  • MIG/MAG (Gas Metal Arc Welding);
  • TIG (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding);
  • SAW (Submerged Arc Welding).

According to the AWS A5.9 regulation, a key condition for the classification of filler material is a mass fraction of chromium of at least 10.5%. Iron must remain the dominant component in the alloy composition (the base element). When calculating the chemical composition, other alloying elements are considered based on the minimum regulatory values established by the standard.

EV Group China notes that issues of industrial safety and occupational health during welding operations are regulated by relevant national state standards and are not covered within this technical document.

The AWS A5.9 standard is based on two measurement systems: the classic US Customary system and the international metric system (SI). It is important to consider that values in these systems are not interchangeable. In EV Group China’s technical documentation, metric parameters corresponding to standards marked with an “M” are provided in accordance with the International System of Units to ensure the accuracy of engineering calculations.
