Technical requirements of the BS 1873 standard for globe valves
The international industry standard BS 1873 regulates the manufacturing parameters for cast and forged valve bodies made of carbon and alloy steel. This specification covers globe and check valves (including straight, angle, and Y-pattern configurations) with flanged or butt-weld connections. The standard covers a range of nominal diameters from DN 15 to DN 400 (1/2–16 inches) with pressure classes from 150 to 2500.
EV Group China ensures expert product compliance with BS 1873 requirements. Our engineers use the provisions of this standard as a basis for designing valves operated in specialized conditions, including work in aggressive chemical environments or cryogenic temperature regimes (according to clause 37), where standard solutions may not be sufficiently effective.
Adaptation for needle valves
The BS 1873 standard allows for structural adaptation for globe valves with needle seats (nominal sizes 15 mm and 20 mm). In such products, a reduction in the port diameter is permitted, and the needle design can be integral with the stem or have a floating connection to the base, while maintaining full compliance with other mandatory safety and strength parameters established by EV Group China.
