BS 5351 Standard: Technical Requirements for Steel Ball Valves

Technical requirements and scope of the BS 5351 standard

The international standard BS 5351 establishes rigorous engineering norms for steel ball valves, regulating nominal pressure ratings and temperature ranges for body components and seat seals. The document defines design parameters, requirements for materials used, dimensional geometric accuracy, operational characteristics, testing procedures, and product marking rules. The standard covers full-bore and reduced-bore steel ball valves, including units with fully welded or split bodies, as well as designs with trunnion-mounted or floating balls. Particular attention is paid to ensuring anti-static protection and fire safety of the design in accordance with industrial safety protocols.

EV Group China’s technical specifications are based on these requirements to ensure maximum reliability of pipeline systems under critical operating conditions.

Valve ranges and classification

The product nomenclature regulated by this standard is systematized in Tables 1 and 2, which reflect size ranges and pressure classes. It is important to note that the BS 5351 standard focuses exclusively on manufacturing parameters and does not regulate the rules for installing equipment at sites.

Parameter Description according to BS 5351
Design Full-bore or reduced-bore, one-piece or split body
Features Anti-static design, fire-safe
Ball support Floating or trunnion mounted
