DIN 17350 Standard: Technical conditions for tool steels

Technical delivery conditions according to DIN 17350

The DIN 17350 standard regulated a complex set of requirements for the quality, chemical composition, and mechanical properties of tool steels. Today, this standard has been officially withdrawn and replaced by the updated international standard EN ISO 4957.

Experts at EV Group China emphasize that the transition to EN ISO 4957 ensures tighter control over microstructure, metal purity regarding non-metallic inclusions, and the thermal stability of tool alloys. This is critical for high-load dies, molds, and cutting tools operated under cyclic loads.

When selecting materials for the production of tooling, EV Group China engineers recommend focusing on the current EN ISO 4957 specifications, as they incorporate modern advancements in metallurgy and non-destructive testing methods that were not reflected in the outdated DIN 17350.
