Attention: The DIN 17440 standard has been officially superseded by the current European regulation EN 10088-2.
Scope of application and technical standards
This specification defines the technical delivery conditions for stainless steel wire for general purposes. When fulfilling metal product supply orders, EV Group China adheres to the requirements of this standard, as well as the supplementary provisions of DIN EN 10021, which regulate the general technical delivery conditions for steel semi-finished products.
It is important to consider that these requirements do not apply to wire that has undergone deep processing (e.g., additional drawing), as technological processing can significantly alter the initial physical and mechanical characteristics of the material.
Terminology and definitions of stainless steels
The engineering classification of materials is based on the DIN EN 10052 and DIN EN 10079 standards. In the context of EV Group China supplies, stainless steels are understood as high-alloy steels possessing increased corrosion resistance in aggressive chemical environments. The basic chemical composition of such steels is characterized by a chromium content of at least 10.50% and a mass fraction of carbon not exceeding 1.2%.
Ordering parameters and calculated characteristics
Geometric dimensions, diameter tolerances, and cross-sectional ovality are fixed at the time of order placement. We recommend using the size ranges presented in Appendix A to the standard to optimize logistics and production processes.
For engineering calculations of metal product mass, it is necessary to use the density values regulated in DIN EN 10088-1. Individual tolerances regarding the weight characteristics of the product batch are agreed upon with the EV Group China technical department at the stage of concluding the supply contract.
