DIN 17660: Classification and chemical composition of brass alloys from EV Group China

Technical requirements of the DIN 17660 standard

This technical regulation defines the normative requirements for the chemical composition and classification of semi-finished products made from copper-zinc alloys (brass), where zinc acts as the main alloying component. The standard provides engineers and technologists with precise data for material selection when designing critical components and structures.

To identify alloys according to the DIN 17660 standard, unified alphanumeric codes are used, which correlate with their chemical composition and operational characteristics, as presented in the table below.

Table 1. Classification of copper-zinc alloys according to DIN 17660

Designation (new) Designation (old) Material Number
CuZn5 Ms95 2.0220
CuZn10 Ms90 2.0230
CuZn15 Ms85 2.0240
CuZn20 Ms80 2.0250
CuZn28 Ms72 2.0261
CuZn30 Ms70 2.0265
CuZn33 Ms67 2.0280
CuZn36 Ms63 2.0335
CuZn37 Ms63 2.0321
CuZn36Pb1 Ms63Pb 2.0330
CuZn36Pb3 2.0375
