DIN 2097: Technical specifications for cylindrical helical tension springs

Technical specifications and scope of the DIN 2097 standard

The DIN 2097 standard regulates the production of cold-formed cylindrical helical tension springs made from patented high-strength or tempered round wire with a diameter of up to 17 mm. The technological capabilities of EV Group China allow for strict adherence to these standards to ensure the specified elastic characteristics of the products.

For springs with a wire diameter exceeding 17 mm operating under high cyclic loads, the hot-forming method followed by heat treatment using drawn or rolled non-tempered wire is permitted. Since this production method is specialized and has limited demand, standard tolerances for it are not established. EV Group China engineers are ready to provide individual technical consultation and calculation data upon request for such products.

Main technical parameters and limit values regulated by the DIN 2097 standard:

  • Mean coil diameter (Dm): up to 160 mm.
  • Number of active coils (it): at least 3.
  • Free length of the spring (L0): up to 1500 mm.
  • Spring index (coiling ratio w): from 4 to 20.
