Technical Regulation DIN 3352: Classification and Gate Valve Standards

The DIN 3352 standard has been officially withdrawn and replaced by the current regulation DIN EN 1171:2015-11.

Overview of the DIN 3352 standard

This set of standards describes the technical requirements for industrial gate valves used in piping systems for various purposes. EV Group China provides an expert analysis of the main provisions, classification, and design features of shut-off valves designed according to DIN 3352.

Classification and structure of the standard

  • DIN 3352-1: Basic design principles, nomenclature, and testing methodology.
  • DIN 3352-2: Cast iron gate valves with metal seat sealing and internal spindle arrangement.
  • DIN 3352-3: Cast iron gate valves with metal seat and rising (external) stem.
  • DIN 3352-4: Cast iron gate valves with elastomeric (soft) body sealing.
  • DIN 3352-5: Industrial steel gate valves (isomorphic series).
  • DIN 3352-11/12: Shut-off elements made of copper alloys for flanged and detachable connections.
  • DIN 3352-13: Cast iron gate valves with soft sealing and push-in sleeves.

Technical performance features

To ensure tightness and durability during operation, EV Group China recommends basing the selection of valves on the nominal diameter (DN) and pressure (PN). Depending on the series, the gate valves are designed for operation in media such as: water, superheated steam, petroleum products, and technical oils.

Application parameters for series gate valves

Series (DIN 3352) Body Material Sealing Type DN Range
Part 2 Cast iron Metal-to-metal 40–1000
Part 4 Cast iron Elastomer 25–500
Part 5 Steel Metal-to-metal 40–1000

When designing assemblies using these products, it is necessary to consider the requirements of related standards, including DIN 2501-1 (flanged connections) and DIN EN 19 (marking of industrial valves). EV Group China experts emphasize the importance of observing temperature limits for products made of copper alloys, which is 200°C.
