Technical guide to DIN 601 bolts: specifications, property classes, and applications

Important notice: the DIN 601 standard has been officially withdrawn and replaced by the current industry regulation DIN EN ISO 4016:2011-06.

Technical features and scope of DIN 601 bolts

Bolts complying with the DIN 601 specification are fasteners with a hexagonal head, equipped with an incomplete metric thread. The products are manufactured with a nominal shank diameter from M5 to M64 and belong to accuracy class C (coarse grade). In engineering solutions, these hardware items are traditionally used together with nuts according to the DIN 555 standard, ensuring reliable fixation of assemblies in heavy mechanical engineering, industrial construction, and mass production of metal structures.

EV Group China experts highlight the following key material characteristics for these bolts:

  • Property classes: for bolts — 4.6; for mating nuts — 5, 5-2.
  • Anti-corrosion protection: products are supplied both in a “black” finish and with protective coatings, including electro-galvanizing and hot-dip galvanizing for operation in aggressive environments.
