Technical specifications of DIN 960 fine-thread bolts from EV Group China

The DIN 960 standard has been officially declared obsolete and replaced by the current industry regulation DIN EN ISO 8765:2011-06.

Technical overview of the DIN 960 standard

Technical regulation DIN 960 establishes strict tolerances and geometric parameters for hexagon bolts with fine pitch thread (partial thread). The range of nominal thread diameters covers sizes from M8 to M64, with shank lengths varying from 35 to 460 mm. The products comply with accuracy classes A and B, which ensures high reliability of assembly units in precision mechanical engineering, heavy industry, and large-scale construction.

Materials and performance characteristics

The engineering department of EV Group China recommends selecting fastener materials based on operating conditions. The standard provides for the use of the following material groups:

  • Corrosion-resistant austenitic steels (stainless grades);
  • Carbon steels with protective galvanized coating to prevent electrochemical corrosion;
  • Copper alloys (brass) for specific operating conditions where non-magnetic properties or high conductivity are required.

The use of fine thread according to DIN 960 allows for achieving higher tightening torque and better vibration resistance of the connection compared to a standard coarse pitch, which is critical for dynamically loaded structures.
