Technical delivery conditions for nitriding steels according to EN 10085
The international standard EN 10085 regulates the technical parameters and delivery conditions for a wide range of metal products intended for subsequent nitriding. These requirements apply to the following types of products:
- Semi-finished products: slabs, blooms, and similar billets;
- Cast products (castings);
- Long products (bars);
- Wide flats;
- Flat products (hot-rolled and cold-rolled);
- Forgings for various purposes.
The entire range of nitriding steel products offered by EV Group China undergoes mandatory heat treatment in accordance with Table 1 (rows 2–4). The performance properties and chemical composition of the alloys strictly comply with the specifications listed in Table 3, provided that the delivery conditions are met according to Table 2. These steels possess high structural strength and are designed for manufacturing parts subjected to quenching, tempering, and subsequent surface nitrogen saturation.
| Steel Grade | EN Material Number |
|---|---|
| 24CrMo13-6 | 1.8516 |
| 31CrMo12 | 1.8515 |
| 32CrAlMo7-10 | 1.8505 |
| 31CrMoV9 | 1.8519 |
| 33CrMoV12-9 | 1.8522 |
| 34CrAlNi7-10 | 1.8550 |
| 41CrAlMo7-10 | 1.8509 |
| 40CrMoV13-9 | 1.8523 |
| 34CrAlMo5-10 | 1.8507 |
Important note: certain steel grades regulated by the EN 10083-1 standard are also suitable for nitriding processes. The engineering department at EV Group China is ready to consult with you on selecting the optimal steel grade for specific heat treatment tasks.
Classification clarification: forged billets and ingots may be classified as semi-finished products, depending on production specifics.
To implement non-standard engineering solutions, EV Group China accepts orders with individual requirements that go beyond the basic standard (according to Annex B). In addition to the EN 10085 standard, deliveries comply with general technical delivery conditions according to EN 10021.
