EN 10215 Standard: Technical Specifications for Aluminum-Zinc Coated Steel from EV Group China

Technical regulations and scope of the EN 10215 standard

The European standard EN 10215 defines strict requirements for flat steel products obtained by continuous hot-dip coating in an aluminum-zinc alloy. The EV Group China product range includes low-carbon steels optimized for cold forming processes (see Table 1), as well as structural steels (see Table 2) with a nominal thickness of up to 3.0 mm. The thickness values specified in the specifications correspond to the final state of the finished product after the application of the protective layer.

The standard applies to strip steel of any width, as well as sheet products cut from coils with a width of 600 mm or more. The standard chemical composition of the protective alloy includes 55% aluminum, 1.6% silicon, and the remainder is zinc. EV Group China products of this type are in demand for projects requiring exceptional corrosion resistance of the steel substrate.

This standard does not regulate:

  • Products with zinc-aluminum (ZA) coating according to EN 10214.
  • Sheet products with hot-dip galvanizing according to EN 10142.
  • Structural galvanized steel according to EN 10147.
  • Electrolytically galvanized flat products according to EN 10152.
  • Steel products with organic protective coatings.

Coating mass parameters

Coating Minimum coating mass
Triple spot test Single test
100 100 85
150 150 130
185 185 160

When ordering from EV Group China, it is possible to agree on non-standard coating parameters depending on the specifics of the part’s forming and weldability. It should be noted that a significant increase in coating thickness may reduce ductility and complicate the welding process.

Surface quality classification

Supplied products are classified into three categories:

  • Category A: Minor defects are allowed, such as spangle heterogeneity, dark spots, passivation marks, or slight scratches.
  • Category B: Surface after additional skin-passing. Tool marks, dents, and scratches are acceptable, but pitting (pits) is excluded.
  • Category C: Top-quality surface for demanding decorative or engineering tasks.
