EN 10222 Standard: Technical Requirements for Pressure Vessel Forgings

EN 10222 Technical Regulation: Classification and Standards for Forgings

The European standard EN 10222 establishes rigorous requirements for the quality and characteristics of steel forgings intended for use in pressure-bearing equipment. EV Group China products comply with all parts of this standard, ensuring high reliability for critical components.

Below is the structure of the standard, regulating various types of steel based on operating conditions:

  • EN 10222-1: General technical delivery conditions for open die forgings.
  • EN 10222-2: Ferritic and martensitic steels with specified elevated temperature properties.
  • EN 10222-3: Nickel alloy steels with specified low-temperature properties.
  • EN 10222-4: Weldable fine grain steels with high proof strength.
  • EN 10222-5: Martensitic, austenitic and austenitic-ferritic stainless steels.

EN 10222-1: General Requirements

This part of the standard defines the basic acceptance and quality control parameters for forgings, including ring blanks and stamped parts. Technical delivery conditions comply with the requirements of EN 10021.

EN 10222-2: Heat-Resistant Steels

The standard regulates the chemical composition and mechanical characteristics of steels operating at elevated temperatures.

Chemical Composition of Steels according to EN 10222-2

Steel Grade Number C Si Mn P S Cr Mo Other
P245GH 1.0352 0.08-0.20 0.40 0.50-1.30 0.025 0.015
P280GH 1.0426 0.08-0.20 0.40 0.90-1.50 0.025 0.015
16Mo3 1.5415 0.12-0.20 0.35 0.40-0.90 0.025 0.015 0.25-0.35
13CrMo4-5 1.7335 0.08-0.18 0.35 0.40-1.00 0.025 0.015 0.70-1.15 0.40-0.60

1 For increased resistance requirements in hydrogen-containing environments, the chromium content (minimum 0.80%) must be subject to mandatory coordination when ordering from EV Group China.

EN 10222-3: Nickel Steels for Low Temperatures

The standard describes requirements for materials intended for use in extremely low temperatures, where fracture toughness is critical.

Chemical Composition (Nickel Steels)

Grade Number C Mn Ni P S
13MnNi6-3 1.6217 0.16 0.85-1.70 0.30-0.85 0.025 0.015
12Ni14 1.5637 0.15 0.30-1.80 3.25-3.75 0.020 0.010
X8Ni9 1.5662 0.10 0.30-1.80 8.50-10.00 0.020 0.010

EN 10222-4: Fine-Grain Steels

Regulates the production of forgings from high-strength steels, providing excellent weldability under high loads.

EN 10222-5: Stainless Steels

Standards for forgings made from corrosion-resistant steel grades, including austenitic and duplex alloys.
