EN 10226-2 Standard: Technical Guide to Pipe Threads with Sealing

Technical features and application scope of the EN 10226-2 standard

The European standard EN 10226-2 regulates strict requirements for the thread profile geometry, nominal dimensions, limit deviations, and classification of pipe threads. This protocol covers the metric range from 1/16 to 6 inches inclusive. The primary purpose of the standard is to ensure a reliable, leak-proof connection for pipeline system elements, including pipes, fittings, and shut-off and control valves.

To achieve maximum joint tightness when operating under pressure, according to the engineering recommendations of EV Group China, it is necessary to use specialized sealing materials or sealants.

Key notes on the standard

  • Cascade connections: Detailed specifications and parameters for cascade connections are regulated directly in the text of EN 10226-2.
  • Thread taper: Requirements for taper parameters at neutral density should be compared with the provisions set out in the EN 10226-1 standard.
  • Non-threaded connections: For the design of systems that do not require thread cutting, the regulatory framework of EN ISO 228-1 must be used.
  • Quality control: The methodology for verifying the geometry, tolerances, and dimensional characteristics of the thread is described in detail in the EN 10226-3 standard, which contains protocols for measurement procedures.
